If you get error "Illegal characters in path" in Encompass when importing documents from Blend

Loan teams will get an error message if special characters are used in file names.

Application Error

An error occurred. Please contact the administrator with the following information: Illegal characters in path

 

What causes this error?

If the file name of a document in Blend contains any special characters/symbols [@, #, $, %, &, (, ), *, +,~,!,^] it will cause this error in Encompass when importing documents from Blend.

Sometimes borrowers or loan teams upload documents containing these characters. This is a great learning opportunity and we recommend letting them know to avoid this error in the future.

 

To resolve this error

Documents must be renamed to remove any special characters listed above.

1. Navigate to the Docs tab. 

2. Click on the document name to download it on your computer. Update the file name to remove any special characters and save changes.

3. Click Upload File to re-upload the updated file from your computer. 

a. Select the file.

b. Select file Type. 

c. Select Borrower name. 

d. Check box for Share file with borrower(s), if desired. 

e. Click Upload.

4. Follow steps of importing documents into Encompass.
