Security & Process:
How secure is my personal information during the RON closing?
Very secure. There are 3 levels of security for a RON closing.
- Everything is password protected, including the link to get into the signing session
- You will present a drivers license or photo ID to verify your identity for the notary
- Before entering into the digital signing room, you must answer knowledge based authentication questions. These are question that only you should know.
While all these steps only take a few minutes, they ensure a smooth and secure signing process.
Is there anything you'll need me to do to verify my identity?
Yes! Be sure to have a photo ID ready (Drivers license, Passport, or ID card), and you’ll also be asked to complete 3 knowledge based questions that only you should know. For example, the question may ask about a previous home address or phone number.
Can you give me a general overview of how this process usually goes?
You’ll receive an email to log back into the workspace you used to complete your Mortgage application. From there, you’ll be able to review and eSign non-notarized documents prior to your Closing. At the time of your digital closing, you’ll receive another email asking you to log in where you’ll see a new task for your digital signing session. Once in the session you’ll be asked to complete some security questions and present a photo ID. You’ll work with the Notary to complete eSigning of the closing documents. And that’s it!
Documents & Signatures:
Will I be able to review all the documents beforehand, and if so, how?
Yes! Some documents will be ready to review days before closing. Others, because of last minute adjustments and changes, may be ready the day of closing. In any case, you’ll have a chance to see the documents before signing them in the same place and login as your Mortgage Application.
How does the eSignature work? Does it look like my real signature?
Rather than signing name, initials, or dates with a pen, eSignatures are applied by clicking on the document in the designated places. While it won’t look like your real signature, it’s just as legally binding.
What happens if I make a mistake on a document?
Thankfully with eSignatures and digital documents, there’s not really a way to make a mistake. Rather than signing name, initials, or dates with a pen, eSignatures are applied by clicking on the document in the designated places.
Notary & Support:
What's the role of the notary in this process? Will they be on the call?
Just like an In-person signing, the notary will guide you through all the necessary steps in the process over video.
What if I have a question about the content of a document during the closing?
You can ask any questions you have and the notary will be able to assist you.
What happens if my internet connection gets interrupted?
If the borrowers get disconnected anyway during a session they can always refresh their browser. If the wifi goes out and they need to change devices they would need to use the link on their mobile devices and re-onboard with their ID’s.
Post-Closing:
How and when will I receive copies of the finalized documents?
As soon as the documents have been completed and processed, they will be available immediately through the same log in you used to join the digital closing session.
