Date Available: Available now.

Which customers are impacted?: Lenders using automated document processing who have the feature flag enabled.

Required?: No, opt-in.

How to turn on: This will not be automatically enabled for our customers. If you’d like to take advantage of this functionality, please email support@blend.com.

Purpose of Update and Benefit: This feature removes a major blocker for lenders using automated document processing. Previously, when a borrower uploaded multiple files for a single follow-up, the platform merged them into a single PDF.

With this change, eligible follow-ups now preserve each uploaded PDF as a separate document. This allows lender systems to ingest, classify, and process files individually, enabling faster and more reliable end-to-end automation.

Existing behavior remains unchanged for lenders without the feature flag, and image uploads are still merged into a single PDF for convenience.

Current Behavior: When a borrower uploads multiple documents for a single follow-up request (for example, two monthly bank statements), the platform merges them into a single PDF. This creates operational bottlenecks for lenders that rely on automated document processing.

New Behavior: When the feature flag is enabled, uploaded PDFs are preserved as separate documents, each with its own document ID and corresponding applicationFileAvailable BONS event.

Lender UI

In the “Review follow-up” section, each uploaded document is shown on the left panel for review. Individual document acceptance or rejection is not supported; the follow-up is accepted or rejected as a whole.

GET /follow-ups (API v5.3.0+)

The response schema includes a “context.documents[]” array listing each individual document ID.
