USPS Address Verification is a feature that helps lenders verify the accuracy of borrower- and lender-entered addresses. This feature leverages the SmartyStreets API to query the USPS database and verify the formatting and validate accuracy of addresses provided during application intake. For each verified address, Blend will generate a PDF report summarizing and confirming that the address has been verified.
Note: This is an opt-in feature and is available for use in mortgage applications. It is configured by default for Instant Home Equity and Deposit Account templates built with the Blend Builder Platform. Contact Blend Support or your Blend representative in order to enable this in your environment.
Address verification in the borrower application
When the borrower enters an address, the verification check will be run to verify the address formatting with the USPS database. This check will be performed for these address fields:
- Current address
- Mailing address
- Property address
- Real estate property address(es)
- Tax transcript filing address
If the address that was entered matches USPS verified formatting, the address will be automatically marked as verified. If there is a discrepancy between the existing formatting and the USPS-verified version, the user will see a pop-up modal that shows the original address and the USPS-verified version.
