Available: Beta 12/20/22, Prod 1/24/23

Update 1/17: Blend is postponing the production release by one more week. The new target will be Jan. 24. We will update Release Notes if this changes again in the future.

Update 1/13: Blend is changing to a phased rollout for the production release of this feature so that we can more closely monitor the data flowing from Fiserv. A small number of customers will still have Fiserv enabled in production on Jan. 17. All other customers will have Fiserv enabled within 1-3 weeks after that date. We will include an announcement in upcoming Release Notes when the Fiserv rollout is complete.

Update 12/22: This release note has been updated with additional context that was not included when we published this in release notes last week. Here is a summary of changes:

  • The Fiserv workflow does not work in Firefox at the moment. There is a fix that will be merged after the code freeze in January.

  • Removed one of the two confirmation screens that appear after connecting assets. It was removed from the workflow.

  • Added information regarding GSE approval timing.

  • Added a section to include testing credentials. These will only work in beta environments.

  • Edited some wording to clarify that Fiserv is being added as an additional data provider, not replacing any existing providers that we use to connect to FIs.

Which customers are impacted?

This will impact customers who use the asset connectivity workflow in Blend. Since asset connectivity is an out-of-the-box configuration, this will impact most customers.

How to turn on

Fiserv will be automatically enabled as an additional data provider in the Assets workflow on the dates listed above.

Purpose of Update and Benefit

Fiserv has been added as an assets data provider in Blend. Adding Fiserv as a data provider will provide the following benefits:

  • Support for more financial institutions (FIs) in our Assets workflow, letting borrowers connect to more financial institutions
  • Increased direct source data for existing connections to FIs

Asset Refresh and asset follow-ups will work in conjunction with Fiserv, as it does with Plaid and Finicity.

We are currently working with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to receive approval for our Fiserv integration. The target date for Fannie Mae approval is early Q1 2023, and Freddie Mac’s approval is expected in Q2. Lenders may notice a temporary decrease in asset report generation while we work with the GSEs on this approval.

Borrowers using Safari and Firefox will not be able to access the Fiserv workflows in Blend for this initial iteration. We will have a fix for the Firefox experience after our code freeze ends in January. For Safari, the issue is due to a new security feature that prevents cross-site tracking, which Safari enabled by default in 2020. We are working with Fiserv to resolve this issue. Until that work is done, borrowers who use Safari will fall back to our manual workflow.

These changes affect the borrower application. There will be no changes to the lender application.

New Behavior

Once enabled, the Fiserv integration will be similar to our other providers with minor differences in the UI. When borrowers enter the Assets section of the borrower application, they will be prompted to select a financial institution either from the tiles or by searching in the bar above.

If the borrower selects a financial institution that is connected via Fiserv, borrowers will first be asked to consent to connect their accounts. Borrowers will need to check the consent box and click “Continue” to provide consent. If they click “Continue” without checking the box, they will be asked to manually add their account information.

If they provide consent, they will be asked to provide their credentials for the financial institution they selected.

If the connection is successful, borrowers will see all available accounts in the next window. A list of connected accounts with that financial institution will appear in the next screen. Borrowers can remove accounts they do not wish to include on their application from this screen.

When borrowers click “Continue,” the accounts will be added to the Assets section of the application. Borrowers can add more accounts from other financial institutions or proceed to the next section of the application.

Any time the connection fails ( due to the borrower refusing to consent, invalid credentials, or other reasons), Blend will fall back to asking the borrower to manually add account information.

The Generated Asset Statement (GAS) will appear in the Documents tab in the borrower and lender portals.

As noted above, for borrowers who are using Safari, the Fiserv experience will fall back to the manual workflow.

Testing Guidance:

To access this workflow, testers should navigate to the Assets section of the borrower application. Using the search bar, type “Fiserv” and choose “Fiserv No MFA Test Institution” from the dropdown list of options. When prompted to enter credentials, use either of the two options below. This section will be updated with additional credentials as they become available.
