Purpose of Update and Benefit: When borrowers and lenders upload images to Blend, they are converted to PDF at full resolution with no compression. This produces oversized files that fail to export to the LOS, requiring loan staff to intervene manually. This update allows lenders using Empower to enable document compression during conversion, so that exports succeed without manual rework.

Current Behavior: Images uploaded to Blend are converted to PDF with no compression, producing files that can be several times larger than necessary. Oversized files fail to export from Blend to Empower.

New Behavior: When enabled, uploaded images and PDFs are compressed at conversion. Lenders can configure the behavior through three settings:

• Maximum image dimension: 2,500-10,000 px (default: 4,096)

• JPEG quality: 60-100 (default: 85)

• Target maximum collated PDF size: 1-50 MB (default: 50)

If a collated package still exceeds the target size after initial compression, additional compression is applied automatically to bring it under the target.

Documents already within the target size are not modified. If compression fails for any reason, the original file is used rather than blocking the upload. Square-image rendering is also corrected. Applies to documents uploaded by borrowers, co-borrowers, lenders, and third parties.
