Update 4/19: The production rollout of this feature was initially held so the team could make improvements to the disability benefits options in the new modal. That work is still planned, however we are proceeding with the production rollout without the disability benefits options so that customers can still take advantage of these improvements for Employment income in the meantime. We will provide an update in Release Notes when the additional income types are available in the future.

Date Available: Available now in beta, Prod 5/21

Which customers are impacted?: Customers who have enabled Blend Income’s Login-Based Provider verification method.

How to turn on: This feature will be automatically enabled for Blend Income customers on the dates listed above.

Purpose of Update and Benefit:
The user interface (UI) for Blend Income’s Login-Based Provider search modal has been upgraded to make it easier for borrowers to find and log in to their employer’s payroll provider. This upgrade will add:

  • an improved user interface modal that is simple and intuitive to understand
  • an increased number of available employers that borrowers can search through for income verification
  • the ability for borrowers to search by employer name, payroll provider name, gig employment, and certain benefits
  • tabs within the modal that will pre-populate with some employers to help borrowers see more available options
  • the ability for borrowers to click a link that takes them to their payroll provider’s portal to reset their password if needed

Together, these improvements will increase successful verifications through our Login-Based Income solution by making it easier for borrowers to find and connect to their employment income.

Current Behavior:
Borrowers can only search for their employers by their employer name, and the search modal only shows results of search attempts. There are no tabs showing pre-populated employers, payroll providers, or income sources. Additionally, there are three screens that a borrower needs to click through in order to initiate the employer search.

New Behavior:
Borrowers who trigger Blend Income’s Login-Based verification method by clicking on the “Employment” or “Military” tabs in the Income section of the borrower app will see a screen that explains why they should connect to their payroll provider.

After clicking “Search for your employer or payroll provider, they will see an updated version of the search modal.

The search bar at the top of this modal will allow borrowers to search for their employer, payroll provider or other source of income. There are four tabs on the modal that will pre-populate employer, payroll provider, gig employment and benefits. Each tab will pre-populate with a list of possible employers, payroll providers, gigs, and benefits. Note: The options that appear by default in these tabs are controlled by our provider and cannot be customized in Blend.

Results will appear dynamically below the search bar as borrowers type into it.

If borrowers select an employer, the modal will show a login screen and ask the borrower to provide their username and password. The provider’s privacy policy and Blend’s privacy policy are available to borrowers from this login page.

If borrowers search for and select their payroll provider instead of their employer in this modal, they will be prompted to also search for their employer in the next screen.

After choosing an employer, they will see the login screen prompting them to enter their credentials. Privacy policies for the provider and Blend are at the bottom of the login screen. After entering their credentials, borrowers should click “Sign in” to proceed with connecting their payroll provider to their application. The steps and screens from here on have not been changed from existing functionalities.

Testing notes:

  • Testers need to enable pop-ups to experience this workflow
  • “Walmart” and “Paycom” options in the modal will show a slightly different workflow in beta environments. After selecting one of those, a truncated version of consents on the login page, and testers will need to click “Continue” to proceed and see the standard login screen. This difference should only occur in beta environments, not in production.
  • Test credentials will pre-fill in the login modal in beta environments, but not in production.
