Blend offers administrators the ability to import new users or update existing users' information in bulk. In this guide, we'll cover how to create, format, and upload the CSV file to ensure a successful update.

The CSV headers will vary depending on which features your organization is configured with. Typically, headers will include the following:

Prepare the CSV file for import
The easiest method to prepare the CSV is to download the current CSV file as it will already have most of the fields applicable to your organization based on your specific configurations. You can then remove any unnecessary optional fields and update the required fields accordingly to match the CSV Header Details. Alternatively, you can download the UserData Template attached to this article.
Download the current User Data CSV file
Follow the steps below to download a CSV file of the user data in your Blend instance.
- As a Blend administrator, navigate to Your settings.
- Click Setup.
- In the Users section, click the ellipsis button.
- Click Download CSV.
A UserData.csv file will download to your computer.
CSV header field descriptions
Review the chart below for more details on each header field and the accepted values.

Status | Status is a required field. Fill in one of the values below. Value must be in upper case letters.PROVISIONAL - Use when creating a new user record. Full Name | Full Name is a required field. Enter the user's full name as it will appear in Blend. |
Loan Type | Loan Type is a required field. Use to specify which loan types the user will have access to. The options will vary based on your organization's configuration (Mortgage, HELOC, HELOAN, Account Opening, etc.)For users with access to multiple loan types, add a vertical bar "|" to separate the different loan types. Role | Role is a required field. Set the user's role(s). For users with multiple roles, add a vertical bar "|" between each role. Do not add spaces between the roles and the vertical bar.ExampleLoan Officer|Admin|Manager |
Phone # | Phone # is an optional field. Enter the user's phone number using numbers only. Do not add spaces, parentheses, hyphens, or other characters. |
Phone Extension | Phone Extension is an optional field. Enter the user's phone extension using numbers only. Do not add ext, x, or other characters. |
NMLS # | NMLS # is required for users with the Loan Officer role. It is optional for all other role types. |
LOS Username | LOS Username is an optional field. Loan Officers that wish to be assigned to a loan in Encompass must have the LOS Username configured in Blend in Setup > Administration > Users.Blend Administrators can bulk update to include the LOS Username. Otherwise, the exported loans will be assigned to the default assigned user.Encompass UsersInclude the LOS Username value for all Loan Officer users in Blend. |
Branch | Branch is an optional field. Enter the branch name or number the user belongs to. |
Employee Id | Employee Id is an optional field. Enter the user's employee ID. |
Login Method | Login Method is a required field. Set the user's login method depending on your organization's configuration.email - For users that log in with an email and password. The value must be in lower case letters.SSO - For users in organizations configured with Single Sign-On (SSO). The value must be in upper case letters. |
Credit Internal Account Identifier | Credit Internal Account Identifier is an optional field. Some credit providers require a credit internal account identifier for reporting and/or cost purposes. |
Loan Officer Insurance Setting | Loan Officer Insurance Setting is a required field. Set the loan officer setting for Home Insurance experience.digitalAgencyAndUpload - Borrower's will go through Blend's Insurance digital experience (for customers with Blend Insurance enabled) or have the ability to upload their own policy.uploadOnly - Borrower's will only be able to upload their homeowner's insurance policy.disableFollowUp - Disables homeowner's insurance Follow Up.Please note that the values above must be in camel case. Things to note
- All headers must be labeled correctly.
- Newly created users must have the status set to PROVISIONAL.
- The steps listed below should be followed in the order listed.
- Make sure there is no other formatting and no duplicate users.
- Each row should include the appropriate user details.
- Required fields cannot be empty.
- Optional fields can be empty.
Upload the CSV to create or update users in bulk
Once the CSV file has been properly formatted, follow the steps below to upload the file.
- As a Blend administrator, navigate to Your settings
- Select Setup.
- In the Users section, click the ellipsis button.
- Click Upload CSV.
- Click Choose File and select the CSV file you prepared.
- Click Parse CSV.
- Upon success, a provisional record will be created. You'll see a Bulk User Update - Successfully updated X/X message.
To send activation emails to recently created users, refer to the Send activation emails to provisional users in bulk section below.
Note
- No notifications are sent to users with PROVISIONAL status.
- Provisional users are not visible in Blend and cannot be assigned applications
Invite provisional users in bulk
You can send invitations in bulk to recently created users with PROVISIONAL status.
- Edit the CSV status column to INVITED.
- Re-upload the CSV (Follow steps 1-6 under the Upload the CSV and create new users in Blend).
- Upon success, the user will be in the “Pending email verification” state.
Note: Users cannot be created with fully activated status via the user management feature. Users must activate their accounts following the instructions in the invitation email (for non-SSO users).
If you get an error when uploading the CSV file
Please try the following if you get errors when bulk updating users in Blend via CSV file upload.
- Make sure required fields are not empty. Refer to CSV header field descriptions.
- Make sure that net new users have the status set to PROVISIONAL.
- Is the status field in uppercase letters? (PROVISIONAL or INVITED).
- For fields that can have multiple values (Loan Types, Roles) make sure there are no spaces between the role name, the pipe "|", and the next role name.
- Make sure the NMLS # is filled for users with the Loan Officer role.
- Make sure you are including Loan Types supported by your organization.
- Make sure that all fields are filled in according to their description. For example:
- Make sure emails are formatted correctly with @ and .com
- Make sure there are no spaces, dashes, or other characters for number-only fields (Phone #, Phone Extension, NMLS #
